Cosmetic Dentistry at Millennium Dential Clinic

Many of us in the UK are unhappy with our smile. With advances in modern dentistry, it's no longer just a case of filling and taking out teeth. Cosmetic dentistry, or ‘aesthetic dentistry', is used as a means of improving the appearance of teeth and your smile.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

A full mouth reconstruction combines restorative procedures to address all aspects of your oral health. Unlike a smile makeover, a full mouth reconstruction will not only enhance the aesthetics of your smile but also improve your oral foundation for years to come. Patients are coming with their own dental needs and problems, and that’s why the process and procedures are different for every single patient. Your reconstruction may include one or more of the following procedures:

  • Bonding

  • Veneers

  • Crowns and Bridges

  • Dentures

  • Dental implants and Implant-supported restorations

The process includes initial consultation and Full mouth X-Ray or 3D CTBT Scan. Depending on the results you will be provided with detailed treatment plan and time schedule.

Porcelain Crowns

When a tooth becomes heavily decayed, damaged or cracked, a filling will no longer suffice to keep the tooth integrity. To save it from further damage and prolong its life, a crown is a choice as a permanent cover. Crowns are made of variety of materials such as porcelain, gold, acrylic or without a metal skeleton. Upon initial examination, the dentist will determine the material, best suited for your crown.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers may be placed on the surface of teeth that are chipped, crooked or badly stained to improve their look and feel.

Made usually of porcelain or composites by dental lab technicians, these thin, translucent laminates are customised according to the existing dental structure of the patient. With the help of a special adhesive, veneers are fixed permanently onto the teeth. Compared to dental bonding or crowns, veneers look and feel more natural, and they are significantly better at resisting stains which occur from various sources such as soda, cigarettes and coffee.

The installation of veneers usually involves diagnosis, preparation and bonding. During diagnosis, the dentist will inform you if veneers can be of help in your situation. If so, the tooth preparation visit consists of slight removal of enamel (about half a millimetre) to make space for the veneer. At times, the dentist will administer anaesthesia for this portion of the procedure. During the same appointment, a mould of the affected area is taken and sent to the dental lab for the custom veneers to be made.

The final visit - normally lasting one to two hours - consists of bonding the veneers onto the tooth. Primarily, the dentist will place the veneers onto the tooth’s surface to ensure they fit and to match the colour to your teeth. The colour can be adjusted with dental cement. Once all adjustments are complete, a laser will be used to harden the cement.

Several weeks after the procedure, you will adjust to the new look and feel of the teeth. While they will not feel like your teeth, in some cases they may even feel better. It is important to remember that good oral hygiene is important to keep the durability of your veneers.

Cosmetic Bonding

Dental bonding is a common solution for restoring and reshaping teeth. Treatment is a matter of choice when patients have chipped or cracked teeth, gaps or spaces between teeth, discolouration or faded areas on the tooth’s surface. Often used to improve the appearance and enhance the smile of the patient.

Composite bonding has a lot of advantages: It is a relatively inexpensive process. It is quick, patient see the result in one session. It keeps as much as possible of the tooth’s original structure. It comes with many different shades and matches exactly the natural colour of your teeth, or in case of discoloration could improve the colour of the teeth.

Compared to the crowns and veneers bonding have some disadvantages: It is not long lasting. It needs extra care. Easy to stain. Have to be flossed and brushed daily. We advise our patients to compare all available cosmetic treatments carefully, before making their choice.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth-whitening procedures are widely requested to remove stains caused by ageing, food, and chemicals.

The exterior surface of your teeth- the enamel, can become stained by products such as soda, coffee, tea, wine, natural and artificial food colourings among other things. With ageing, the enamel can wear away and become more vulnerable to staining. Depending on the severity, this can usually be helped by consistent brushing and flossing. Unfortunately, sometimes oral hygiene is simply not enough!

While some over-the-counter whitening toothpaste can make teeth a few shades brighter in a healthy manner, others can degrade your teeth further by wearing away the enamel. They are also only effective on certain type of stains and cannot whiten crowns, bridges or fillings.

Professional-grade whitening performed at our office is considered to be the safest and can last you up to five years depending on your hygiene and diet.
